Presidents have been very, very good to Marvel Comics lately. President Barack Obama’s appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #583 has led to five printings of the issue. So it should come as no surprise that Marvel Comics is celebrating President’s Day with another Presidential appearance. However, this time the focus isn’t current President Barack Obama, but rather past President Abraham Lincoln. In honor of President Lincoln’s 200th birthday, Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited is releasing an exclusive free digital comic featuring Spider-Man and Captain America at the historic Gettysburg Address. The free digital comic is called Gettysburg Distress and is six pages in length. The comic was written by Matt Fraction with art by Andy MacDonald. It will become available online starting on President’s Day, Monday, February 16, 2009.Of course, Marvel Comics isn’t leaving President Barack Obama completely out of the spotlight. In addition to the special President Lincoln digital comic book, Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited is also going to allow free online access to the Barack Obama story in Amazing Spider-Man #583.The story will also include four brand new, exclusive prologue pages. The original story and the additional pages were written Zeb Wells with art by Todd Nauck and Frank D’Armata.”We were completely blown away by the overwhelming response to the Spidey Meets the President storyline.Comic book shops have not been able to keep it on shelves, so we thought it would a fitting way to celebrate President’s Day by offering free online access to all fans to view and read the storyline – including some exclusive new content – only at Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited,” said Dan Buckley, who is President of Marvel Publishing.”And in celebration of President Lincoln’s historic Bicentennial, we could think of no better tribute in the Marvel Universe than to have Spider-Man and Cap honoring one of his enduring legacies, the Gettysburg Address.”The Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited Presidential destination can be found at www.marvel.com/digitalcomics/presidents.
