As part of their massive slate of announcements earlier today, Marvel Studios announced two new Avengers movies, Avengers: Infinity War Parts I & II, for 2018 and 2019.

Based on the classic Marvel Comics stories that begin with the Infinity Gauntlet event, the story will see the Avengers battling against the Mad Titan, Thanos, who shall possess ultimate power over existence via the use of the the Infinity Gauntlet, now adorned with all six Infinity Stones (Infinity Gems in the comics).

Thanos first appeared in the after-credits scene of the Avengers, and the made a brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, played by Josh Brolin. While he has yet to actually get his hands on any of the Stones, we know that he’ll acquire them eventually thanks to this image form today’s big event.

Earth will likely be in a weakened state of defense when Thanos makes his moved, thanks the superhero showdown coming in Captain America: Civil War, but its possible the Avengers will be able to shore up their ranks with help from newcomers Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel.

Avengers: Infinity War Parts I & II will hit theaters May 2018 and 2019.
