In addition to the casting, EW is also reporting the role Sydow will be playing. It’s a character we’ve met but just haven’t seen in a while: the Three-Eyed Raven. The Three-Eyed Raven serves as a mentor for Bran Stark, who will likely return after being absent from the screen for all of season five this year. The last time we saw Bran, the Three-Eyed Raven’s human form told Bran he would not ever walk again, but fly. However, at the time, the Three-Eyed Raven was portrayed by Struan Rodger.
Earlier this week, we also learned that Ian McShane has been cast in the upcoming season of HBO’s medieval drama.
Game of Thrones returns on HBO in 2016.
