In honor of last week’s historic legalization of same-sex marriage, comics creator Mark Millar and publisher Image Comics have made Jupiter’s Cricle #1 free-to-download. Jupiter’s Circle is the 1950’s-set prequel to Millar’s current MillarVerse series, Jupiter’s Legacy, the series about less-than-noble super-beings and their super heroic parents. The issue will also celebrate gay pride with a special rainbow variant cover.
But Jupiter’s Circle isn’t jumping in on the celebration just for kicks. The story actually features a gay superhero who, because of the times’ intolerance to the LGBTQ community, must keep his orientation a secret from even his closest allies. Moving forward, it will be interestingto see if the character addresses the marriage law during the modern-day Jupiter’s Legacy series.
Here’s what Millar had to say about the event comic on his MillarWorld website.
“Jupiter’s Circle is about a gay superhero in 1959, keeping his sexuality as secret as his alter-ego in an era where being a gay man would mean being ruined and expulsion from his very conservative super-team. It’s rated Teen-Plus and this issue comes with a special rainbow cover to commemorate the day gay Americans got the same rights as everyone else. We hope you enjoy it. Very best wishes from all your friends at Millarworld and Image Comics #lovewins”

Jupiter’s Circle, by Millar and illustrator Wilfredo Torres, is on-sale now.
