In a viral marketing move similar to the one we saw yesterday from the Man of Steel movie campaign, the filmmakers behind Pacific Rim released their first trailer today after a countdown by a fictional, pseudoscientific organization (in this case, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, who track, prevent and fight off Kaiju attacks in the forthcoming film from Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro.At 7 p.m. tonight, the first teaser for the film went live at the fake organization’s website, where you can also explore for more Easter eggs (Jaeger blueprints, which we’ve already shown off as they were released). The video itself is embedded below.Both Man of Steel and Pacific Rim are being produced and distributed by Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers, the people behind this week’s big release, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s been confirmed already that the Man of Steel trailer would screen in front of that title, but is it possible that this trailer could be in theaters this weekend, too?Earlier today, the studio also released an official image of the Jaeger Gypsy, which is shown above.Pacific Rim opens worldwide on July 12, 2013.
