While the show still doesn’t have a title, it does have a director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Favreau, the director behind Iron Man, Chef, and The Jungle Book, will helm the first episode. Favreau has mostly directed feature films, but he has been known to dabble in the small screen, too, directing the pilots of NBC’s Revolution and About a Boy, as well as an episode of The Office.

As for MacFarlane, he is best known for being the creator, executive producer and voice actor on Family Guy, as well as executive producing the Peabody Award winning television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, directing and starring in the highest-grossing original R-rated film of all-time, Ted, and wrote, produced, directed and starred in the western-comedy film A Million Ways to Die in the West.

From 20th Century Fox Television, the UNTITLED SETH MacFARLANE PROJECT, is a comedic drama set 300 years in the future. It follows the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.

The series is being targeted for the 2017-2018 television season. Production is set to begin in January.
