If you’ve been an avid collector and player of the long-running title, you undoubtedly have a few doubles laying around. The artist known as Lunumbra (real name Micah Jett Yates) has found an inspired use for those cards and has created lavish Pokemon paintings with them (via Geek.com).

Yates takes existing Pokemon cards, and whether via a commission or just for fun, uses the original backdrop as inspiration and creates a wonderfully detailed art piece around it. Using Apple Barrel acrylic paints, she paints over everything but the center picture, and then creates an all new surrounding, sealing it with gloss sealant.

While she does work on repeat characters sometimes, each one is unique and original, and you can view some of her work in the gallery. Some of these are just stunning, and if you’ve got a Pokemon fan in your life, this would make a fantastic birthday or Christmas present. The cards sell for $20 each, and she is open for commissions at this time. You can put in your request on her official website here, and you can see some additional process images here.
