Guy Blomberg, the creator of the event, was surprised by the walk’s massive turnout. Several thousand people RSVPed for the event via Facebook and actual attendance was estimated at over a thousand people. Highlights from the first ever Pokemon GO Walk included the appearance of a Pikachu and Electrabuzz, causing a frenzy among fans.Blomberg joked that the walk moved very slowly because of all the Pokemon catching. He also suggested that the game should be renamed “Pokemon Stop” since players frequently stop in their tracks to throw PokeBalls.

Although Pokemon GO players spend much of their time looking at their phones, the game does include a social aspect. “Lure Modules” can be utilized at PokeStops to attract Pokemon for all players, and teammates can capture gyms more quickly by working together and attacking at the same time.

Pokemon GO is out in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
