Boom! Studios has provided the comics press with a sneak peek at next week’s Free Comic Book Day issue, a 16-page story centered around The Hypernaturals, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s new “cosmic” superhero story which launches from the publisher in July. The issue, drawn by Brad Walker and Tom Derenick, features a cover by Francesco Mattina and will be available on Saturday, May 5 as part of the annual Free Comic Book Day event. When The Hypernaturals–the universe’s bright beacon of hope for order–suddenly disappear, it’s up to a group of the organization’s retirees and a handful of novice trainees to step up, take the reins of the organization, and protect the galaxy while simultaneously trying to figure out what the heck happened to their erstwhile teammates. The Free Comic Book Day story will not be reprinted in July’s #1, according to Boom!’s press release, and will likely remain out of circulation until the series’ first collected edition.Check out the pages below, click on them to see a larger version, and ignore the CBR-exclusive logo on the cover. Boom! sent it to everyone that way.
