Golden Globe-nominated actor Dominic West—who is best for portraying Jimmy McNulty in HBO’s The Wire and Jigsaw/Billy Russotti in 2008’s Punisher: War Zone—has landed an important role in Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, West will play Lara Croft’s father and archeologist, Lord Richard Croft—the same role that Jon Voight portrayed in the Angelina Jolie-led adaptations of the popular video game franchise. In the reboot, Lara (Alicia Vikander) “sets out on her first expedition to finish her father’s research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name.”

The new Tomb Raider will be more of an origin story than the previous film series. It’ll focus on a younger version of Laura Croft, similar to the one featured in the 2013 game, who is determined to find out if her father is dead or alive.
The film stars Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) as Lara Croft, Dominic West (Punisher: War Zone, The Wire) as Lord Richard Croft, Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands) as Lu Ren, and Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Justified) as the film’s main villain.
Tomb Raider has been written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is also slated to write upcoming films like ROM, Sherlock Holmes 3, and Gotham City Sirens. The movie is being directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthag (The Wave).
Tomb Raider reboot begins filming next month and is set to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
