On Friday, screenwriter Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk), who rewrote Ernie Cline’s Ready Player One screenplay (based on Cline’s best-selling sci-fi novel of the same name), revealed that the first week of filming on the Steven Spielberg-directed movie has been completed.

“First week of #ReadyPlayerOne finished,” Penn posted on Twitter. “Surreal. It went to 11. Thanks for writing your book @erniecline and the assist in Oology” The post was met with an enthusiastic reply from Cline, who tweeted, “My pleasure, Zak! So insanely excited for my set visit!”

The cast features Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts, Olivia Cooke as Art3mis, Simon Pegg as Orgen Morrow, Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorento, T.J. Miller as i-R0k, Win Morisaki as Daito, and Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday.

The story of a virtual-reality game creator who offers up his entire company to the best player who can find an Easter egg in one of his many virtual worlds via a game called OASIS. A teenager named Wade Watts decides to take it on after millions have failed over many years. The key to winning the game is a plethora of pop culture clues from the 1980s. Whomever figures it out and wins the game โ€” without having their avatars killed in the process โ€” takes over the entire OASIS empire.

Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”) is directing Ready Player One. The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner; Dan Farah; and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger; with Bruce Berman serving as executive producer.

Ready Player One will open in theaters on March 30, 2018.
