And you thought Top Cow drew some ire from fans when they decided to use popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter to fund a free CyberForce miniseries. Well, arguably the most controversial talent in American comics–and a creator who is successful enough that some fans will likely see him as “too rich for Kickstarter”–is headed there to fund a similar project.Rob Liefeld hopes to use crowdfunding to resurrect Brigade, and has launched a Kickstarter campaign so that he can afford to make the initial issues free across digital and print formats, just like Top Cow did with CyberForce.Originally created as a spinoff of Youngblood, Brigade never reached the same level of popularity that book did but it did manage to garner some strong reviews and a cult following back in the day, not unlike the recently-relaunched Prophet, which has become a massive hit based on Liefeld’s original concepts. The premise behind the new Brigade is that all time and space is under constant attack by a multitude of threats each attempting to alter the course of human history. A Brigade of heroes is assembled by original team leader Battlestone, who commands a diverse unit of heroes uniquely qualified to defend humanity and preserve the fragile order of things. By definition, “A Brigade is a major tactical military formation that is typically composed of up to three to six battalions”. The first of many time-bombs has been detonated and the fabric of many realities has begun to crater and change.Check out Liefeld’s campaign pitch video below. It’s almost as cool as his Levi’s ad.
