At one time when Roberto Orci was working on the next Star Trek film there was a rumor that William Shatner would reprise his role as Captain Kirk. Now that Orci is off the project and the script is in the hands of Simon Pegg is a Shatner appearance out of the question?

“William Shatner is an amazing actor, and has such an incredible body of work which transcends his time as Captain Kirk,” Pegg told Digital Spy. “It’s always about whether the stories right. It’s pointless crowbarring these things in as a gimmick. That does the story and the film a disservice. I have no doubt in my mind that he could play Captain Kirk until the day he goes off to the final frontier.”

Last week, Pegg grabbed some headlines based on comments he made that Paramount wasn’t pleased with a past script because it was “too Star Trek-y” Thus, people deduced his Star Trek script would less Star Trek-y. “No, I didn’t say that,” Pegg declared. “I’m kind of getting tired of having click-bait headlines reduced to things I say to easily objectionable comments. I didn’t say that. I didn’t mean that. He then added, “This Star Trek will be as much Star Trek as it can be.”
