Today at their San Diego Comic Con International panel, Robert Kirkman’s Skybound introduced Manifest Destiny, a new ongoing series from creator/writer Chris Dingess (television writer for Syfy’s Being Human) and artist Matthew Roberts (who worked on Image Comics’ Battle Pope with Kirkman). The book debuts in November and follows Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s historic expedition across America, only for them to uncover that the frontier is full of monsters.”I’m fascinated by the pop culture phenomenon of taking historical characters, both real and fictional, and placing them in big, fake, extraordinary adventures,” said Dingess. “I’m also intrigued by the modern world’s growing obsession with vast government conspiracies, both real and fictional. I was excited to take these two concepts and make them have a baby. And Matt Roberts has made this baby very pretty.””Chris has written such a crazy, fun adventure, but he always leaves me enough rope to hang myself in the details,” adds Roberts. “For example – I had no clue how in vogue popped up collars were in the early 19th century. That and leather chokers. Researching and drawing all these things is such a turn from drawing shiny, spandexed muscles. I’m having a blast.”They also announced Dead Body Road, a new miniseries from writer Justin Jordan and artist Matteo Scalera. That title is “the relentless revenge story of Gage, an ex-cop whose wife is killed during a bank robbery, and his long road to make sure none of the men involved escape alive.” This miniseries also kicks off in November.”They say when you seek revenge, first dig two graves,” said Jordan. “This one is going to take a lot more than two. Dead Body Road is my love letter to crime books, western movies and desert noir, and it all ends bloody, with violence beautifully rendered with all the energy and animation that Matteo Scalera can throw at the page.”
