Slave Leia Rumored to be Retired from All Star Wars Merchandise

The latest rumor from MakingStarWars circling Star Wars has nothing to do with the upcoming films. Instead, it says that one of the most recognizable outfits in the franchise, the metal bikini that Leia wore when she single handedly killed Jabba the Hutt (commonly referred to as “Slave Leia,” though a fan movement calls it “Hutt-Slayer Leia”), has been retired. The rumor is that Disney has put down an edict saying the look and outfit should no longer be used in any merchandise.

Of course, there’s not that much merchandise out there with this outfit. Sure, there are some costumes, and there’s an action figure from Habro’s black series that’s a couple of years old, but that’s about it for recent releases. Sideshow and Gentle Giant have also made statues in the outfit and pose in the past.

The rumor gained traction thanks to frequent-Marvel cover artist J. Scott Campbell saying on facebook that he’s “heard from two sources” that Disney is “wiping out the outfit from any future products,” further commenting that “we can’t even draw Leia in a sexy pose at Marvel, let alone in that outfit!”

Regardless, this all comes shortly after (and in fact Campbell’s comments were sparked by) Carrie Fisher telling newcomer Daisy Ridley to “fight for your outfit. Don’t be a slave like I was.”

Sounds like she won’t have to.
