Stranger Things: 5 Questions Raised In Season 2 Trailer

As promised several days ago, the first trailer for the second season of Stranger Things during the Super Bowl. Even though it only contained about 15-seconds of actual footage, the response to it has been overwhelmingly positive. That’s due in large part to people just being so elated to see anything from Netflix‘s latest must-binge original series.

Along with the sneak peek, its premiere date and an official (and brief) synopsis were released. The former seems to be the only thing upsetting fans. Most of them can’t bear the thought of waiting two-hundred and sixty-eight days for Season 2 to become available to stream. If it helps any, just think of it as eight months and twenty-six days. Oh, wait, that probably didn’t help at all.

As for the synopsis, it reads: “A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”

The first season of Stranger Things starred Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine. The second season will feature Sadie Sink as Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era, and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery as Billy, Max’s hyper-confident, and edgy older step-brother.

Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden) serve as writer, directors and co-showrunners of the series, and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via their 21 Laps entertainment banner (The Spectacular Now, Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night). Shawn Levy also serves as director.

Stranger Things 2 — which consists of 9 episodes — will arrive this Halloween!

Where is Eleven?

The trailer offers a couple shots of Eleven. After being with an old school Eggo commercial, as a nod to the character’s insatiable appetite for her favorite brand of frozen waffles, we get an upside-down shot of Eleven. This, obviously, is a reference to the Upside Down — the monster-filled and toxic-to-humans parallel dimension. What’s most interesting about the shot is that Eleven’s nose is bleeding, indicating that she has recently used her telekinetic or telepathic abilities.

But that shot doesn’t explain where she is. As you’ll remember in the season finale, Eleven mustered all of her super-powers to defeat the demogorgon, but her victory came at a cost. She vanished along with the creature. In the one-month flash forward that wrapped up the season, we saw Hopper go into the woods and deposit waffle in a box, so Eleven most certainly survived.

As for the second shot of Eleven in the trailer (pictured above), we see her crouched up against a wall, holding her head, bleeding a bit from the nose, and wearing an anguished look upon her face. Plus, this is our first time seeing Eleven with her hair grown out! So, where is she? Well, the wood paneling on the wall looks quite a bit like Joyce Byers’s (Winona Ryder) home.

Though they only shared the screen for a brief time, Joyce and Eleven seemed to have a mother/daughter-like bond. It would surprise anyone if Joyce has taken Eleven into her home, especially since the young girl helped rescue her missing son.

Any other guesses? Perhaps, Eleven is living with her catatonic mother, Terry Ives, or her aunt, Becky Ives. Joyce and Hopper know that Eleven is Terry’s daughter (who is actually named Jane), so at some point, they have to tell Eleven who her mom and aunt are. Right?!

Who drew the new monster?

It’s either Eleven or Will Byers. Most likely it’s Will.

Why could it be Eleven’s art? Well, when Hopper investigated Hawkins Lab for the first time, he knew that a child was — at one time or another — being kept in the facility when he came across drawings that I child would do. Those were clearly drawn by Eleven, but they weren’t as advanced as the artwork above. She could’ve improved, but probably not that much.

Why is it Will’s art? Because we also get to see Will from the inside of his home staring — as goosebumps raise the back of his neck — at the multiple-limbed creature that is backlit from the stormy red sky.

Where is Will being treated?

Is Will in a hospital on Halloween eve? He’s wearing a hospital gown, sensors are attached to his head, and the older gentleman examining him is wearing a doctor’s coat, so a hospital seems logical.

But, then again, the fact that this examination is being recorded with a security camera and monitored by some sort of security guard makes the hospital setting less likely.

There are a couple of other possibilities. One, he could be in a mental institution. Or two, he could be at Hawkins Laboratory, being evaluated by one of their scientists. It seems a bit farfetched that Joyce Byers would bring Will to Hawkins after everything they did last season; however, since Will is infected with something from the Upside Down (coughed up slugs in the finale) and is probably causing him to act strangely, Hawkins might be the only place that can provide answers.

Who is in danger in Season 2?

Everyone!

“In season 1, Will is in danger,” co-creator Matt Duffer told Entertainment Weekly. “And season 2, it’s the town. The stakes escalate in that way.”

Yup, that means more of the creatures from the Upside Down will cross into our dimension and wreak havoc upon the citizens of the small Indiana town. We get a glimpse of that in the trailer when Hopper is attacked by an Upside Down creature in the comfort of his (now bug-less) trailer.
