For its first season, Stranger Things was a love letter to the classic science-fiction films from the late-’70s to the mid-’80s, such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Alien (1979), and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), as well as coming-of-age movies like The Goonies (1985) and Stand by Me (1986).

And we now know from this first look photo released by EW that 1984’s Ghostbusters will have an impact on the show’s second season. As you can see in the photo below (from left to right) Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) are dressed as the paranormal investigators.

Additionally, during this Sunday’s Super Bowl (airing on FOX), the first footage from Season 2 will be shown. Since details on the upcoming season have been kept under wraps, the Super Bowl teaser should provide viewers with some clues about what’s to come. Executive producer Shawn Levy did provide EW with one tantalizing tease: “The demogorgon was destroyed but evil wasn’t.”

The first season of Stranger Things starred Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine. The second season will feature Sadie Sink as Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era, and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery as Billy, Max’s hyper-confident, and edgy older step-brother.

Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden) serve as writer, directors and co-showrunners of the series, and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via their 21 Laps entertainment banner (The Spectacular Now, Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night). Shawn Levy also serves as director.
