Those numbers pushed its three-week total to $130 million at the U.S. box office and $413 million internationally, meaning that it’s eclipsed $500 million at the global box office in less than a month.
The Peanuts Movie earnes second place for the second weekend in a row with a $24 million haul bringing its domestic total to over $80 million. It’s likely that by this time next week, it will have earned back its $99 million production budget even before international receipts start to be counted (currently, it has earned just $9 million outside of North America).
CBS Films’ Love the Coopers opened the strongest of new releases with over $8 million earned against its $17 million budget. The film, which stars Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s Anthony Mackie and Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s Marisa Tomei, was a hit with women and will likely have some legs due to its holiday themes, even though it rated a dismal 17% at Rotten Tomatoes and only a B- CinemaScore from moviegoers.
Rounding out the top five were The Martian and The 33. The latter, a Warner Bros.-produced film based on the Chilean miner crisis from five years ago, failed to captivate audiences the way the news did at the time: it earned less than $6 million, although international stars Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche and Gabriel Byrne helped it to double that internationally.
