The time has finally come, and comic movies are getting the recognition that we feel they’ve always deserved. The 2016 mega-hit Deadpool has been nominated for the Best Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy award at this year’s Golden Globes!

While this is an incredible feat for the movie, it faces some stiff competition. The field was packed with a ton of great movies over the year, and Deadpool was put into a group of five finalists to win the award.

La La Land

La La Land is a classic Hollywood musical, with a touch of modern flair. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as two aspiring artists in Los Angeles, that cross paths on their way to their desired futures.

The movie was written and directed by Damien Chazelle, who gained a lot of buzz with his previous film, Whiplash.ย 

Ryan Gosling is also nominated for Best Actor – opposite Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.

Sing Street

Sing Street is a rock’n’roll musical set in Dublin in the 1980s. It centers around a teenage boy who starts a band in order to impress the girl he likes.

Written and directed by John Carney (Once, Begin Again), the movie stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Kelly Thornton, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Jack Reynor, and Game Of Thrones star Aiden Gillen.

20th Century Women

20th Century Women follows the lives of three women in the late 1970’s who try to figure out the secrets of love and freedom in Southern California.

The film was written and directed by Mike Mills, and stars Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, and Billy Crudup.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins is another musical film, starring the one-and-only Meryl Streep. It follows the story of the title character, played by Streep, who wants nothing more than to be a famous opera singer – despite having an awful singing voice.

The film was written by Stephen Frears, and was directed by Nicholas Martin. Along with Meryl Streep, the movie stars Hugh Grant, Rebecca Ferguson, and Simon Helberg.
