Back in July 2011, 20th Century Fox began developing a live-action film adaptation of Rust — the critically-acclaimed comic book series created by Royden Lepp and published by Boom Studios via its Archaia imprint. Attack the Block-helmer Joe Cornish was set to direct, Devil Wears Prada and We Bought a Zoo scribe Aline Brosh McKenna penned the script, and X-Men series producer Simon Kinberg was set to produce.

Over first several years since the announcement was first made, there were a few positive updates on its progress, so we remained hopeful the film would eventually come together; however, there hasn’t been anything new to report on it in the past few years … until now!

We’ve recently come across two videos featuring test footage from Fox’s Rust. The one directly below features Jet Jones (wearing the jetpack) on the front of Roman Taylor’s motorcycle. They are being chased by a giant robot on the Taylor family farm. The second video, which can be viewed by clicking here, just shows a character modeling and animation test for the robot.

It should also be noted that Royden Lepp, had also reposted other footage from the film that has been taken down.

Who knows! If the response to this leaked test footage goes as well as it did for Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller’s Deadpool — which was another long-gestating comic book adaptation at Fox — it’ll get a greenlight and shatter box office records, too.

About Rust:

Rust is a high-octane adventure set in the prairie lands of an unknown time. Life on the Taylor family farm was difficult enough before Jet Jones crashes into the barn, chased by a giant decommissioned war robot! Oldest son Roman Taylor struggles to keep his family’s small farm afloat as the area heals from a devastating world war. While the rest of his family may not trust the mysterious boy with the jetpack, Roman believes the secrets of Jet’s past may be the key to their survival.
