This week, I spoke with Age of Apocalypse writer David Lapham. Best known for his creator-owned work like Stray Bullets and Young Liars, Lapham has had some success with corporate-owned characters as well. He’s written Spider-Man stories and, more recently, was the writer on Deadpool MAX. Now he’s stepping into the Age of Apocalypse, an ongoing title set in one of Marvel’s more fan-favorite alternate realities, where he’ll be taking cues from the super-successful Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender, where these long-out-of-circulation characters and concepts were recently brought back to the fore. I talked to Lapham about the joy and the challenges of writing a book that you enter with so much baggage and so many expectations, and much more. For a lighter look at the series, check out some of the ground rules for Age of Apocalypse‘s reality that Lapham laid out on Twitter yesterday.David Lapham’s blogBuy Age of Apocalypse #1 at ComiXologyCheck out Lapham’s and my old interview series The Truth, With LiarsOur second guest this week is Daniel Corey, whose Image Comics title Moriarty was one of our top ten books of 2011. In addition to a recently-announced musical adaptation, the second volume of the trade paperback collections–The Lazarus Tree–is due out next week (you can check out the embedded trailer below). Moriarty is an ongoing, creator-owned monthly series which takes breaks between arcs to give the artist time to catch up and to release trades allowing fans to pick up anything they might have missed. They’ve just entered onesuch break and before we get another issue of Moriarty, it’s entirely possible that Corey will have another exciting announcement or two.
