Some gingerbread houses are like people: some shine, and some don’t. This one, based on Stanley’s Kubrick’s 1980 psychological horror film The Shining, most certainly shines.

Horror film directors Aaron and Austin Keeling (The House On Pine Street), and their family, spent over two weeks meticulously recreating The Overlook Hotel “entirely out of gingerbread, icing, fondant, candy, and Rice Krispies Treats!”
And within the gingerbread house itself are recreations of famous scenes from the film. You can go play in the hallway with the creepy Grady twins. The overly-quoted “Heeere’s Johnny!” scene with Jack and Wendy Torrance in the bathroom. Jack encountering Room 237’s scary and decaying old woman in the bathtub. Wendy in the Gold Room ballroom that’s filled with cobwebs and skeletons. The elevator filled with blood — made from melted Jolly Ranchers.
Hey, what about the hedge maze? Yup, they did that too! With Rice Krispies Treats they built a hedge maze and even stuck a frozen Jack in there for the extra chill.

All work and no play makes Academy Award-winner Jack Nicholson (“As Good As It Gets,” “Batman”), the caretaker of an isolated resort, go way off the deep end, terrorizing his young son and wife Shelley Duvall (“Roxanne”). Master filmmaker Stanley Kubrick’s (“Full Metal Jacket,” “2001: A Space Odyssey”) visually haunting chiller, based on the bestseller by master-of-suspense Stephen King (“The Stand,” “Carrie,” “The Shawshank Redemption”), is an undeniable contemporary classic. Newsweek Magazine calls this “the first epic horror film,” full of indelible images, and a signature role for Nicholson whose character was recently selected by AFI for its’ 50 Greatest Villains.
