Homer sleeps through an alarm at the Springfield Power Plant and tries to turn it off to sleep more but starts a fire in dismissing it and uses the smoke clouds as a pillow.

In the hospital, Marge talks about how much Homer has been sleeping, showing off pictures from vacation where he’s sleeping. The doctor injects him with a needle and diagnoses Homer with narcolepsy. Bart tries to pull the plug on his father but gets the TV. The Doctor gives Homer a prescription to help but Homer uses it as excuses not to do things his family needs him to.

Homer imagines marrying himself. He loves it.

Homer goes to the pharmacy and is stuck in line behind old people while trying to fill his prescription. He falls asleep in line.

Homer goes home and Marge questions if he has been drinking and whether or not he got his medicine. He didn’t get it. He’s willing to work it out in counseling. Homer goes on and on about sports to the counselor then falls asleep while Marge is talking. The counselor tells Marge the marriage is rotting. She says they need to spend time apart and then get a divorce. Homer wakes up and says happy anniversary and suggests a therapists. They’re at a therapist.

Homer cries as he packs the car and says goodbye to Bart and Lisa. Marge insists it’s the best way. Homer drives off sobbing. Bart jokes about blaming himself then says all of his problems are his parents’ fault.

Homer sleeps at the plant and is still late for work. He eats alone and accidentally knocks the owner out the window. He goes back to sleep alone.

The next day Homer is questioned about how he can be so happy. His co-workers tell him Marge’s Facebook status has changed to “It’s complicated.” He calls Marge who sends him to voicemail, which she switched to her maiden name.

At the bar, Homer watches a cartoon episode called, “Remember the Alimony!” He wishes his head was filled with guacamole. He talks about his issues at the bar and gets a call from the pharmacy to go pick up his prescription.

The pharmacist applauds his prescriptions and asks Homer if he wants to go out. He tells her she has to imagine she’s walking a very slow old dog then barks at an old man.

In a restaurant, Crusty refuses to sign an autograph buts it’s really just a bill. The pharmacist tries to convince Homer that being single is a good thing. He tries to leave by telling himself he needs to get to the donut shop where they’ll be throwing away the old donuts soon. The pharmacists drops a drug in Homer’s drink, they finish them, and go on a trip together.

Homer wakes up in the pharmacist’s bed. He freaks out and calls home. Marge is getting ready for a date, though. Homer is sad. He goes to the coffee shop with Candace. The friends question why she is hanging out with him.

Homer and Candance show off matching tattoos at the bar. Candace orders a couple drinks Mo has never heard of. When she walks away, Homer’s buddies compliment his new girl. Candace wants Homer to meet her father.

Candace’s father brings Marge to dinner and Homer spits champagne all over Marge’s seat. Candace’s father has been helping raise Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Candance is mad about this. Her father proposes to Marge and Candance tells Homer she’s pregnant.

Homer wakes up in the therapy session, ecstatic about being together. He says he and Marge’s marriage is completely saved by the dream. She asks Marge to be good for a month.

At the end of March, Marge compliments Homer on how well Homer has behaved and Maggie starts singing.

Homer wakes up at a bar with Candace terrified. He runs away, comes back for his beer, then runs away again to find Marge at home serving dinner to Candace’s father. He cries about losing everything and Lisa tells Homer he’ll never lose her. Candace’s father calls Lisa for a game of chess before pony shopping.

Marge wakes up and the whole thing was her dream. The counselor is about to give them advice but it turns out to be a scene on Hannah’s back tattoo which she says means, “Don’t get drunk in Brooklyn.”
