CBS has announced that Under the Dome will return for its second season on June 30, 2014 with a premiere episode written by Stephen King. The new series, Extant, will premiere on July 2nd.Under the Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome.ย The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away. The series is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name, making his writing the premiere for season 2 seem like a no-brainer. The show is returning after a very successful first season, in which it averaged 15.06 million viewers. The series showrunner is Brian K. Vaughan, a former writer on Lost, but probably better known to comic book fans as the co-creator of Y: the Last Man and Saga.Extant is a mystery thriller starring Halle Berry a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. The show is a co-production with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television. Spielberg co-wrote the script and Halle Berry will serve as a co-executive producer.
