With over 40% of its ambitious $2 million Kickstarter campaign already funded, the Veronica Mars movie is now officially the most-funded film/video project in the crowdfunding site’s history.Since ComicBook.com reported on its shocking rise this morning, the film has generated about $436,000 in new pledges from backers in denominations ranging from $10 to $10,000.Veronica Mars is now one of only two Kickstarter campaigns (at least successful ones, assuming it ends up successful) to raise more than half a million dollars on the crowdfunding site. It overtook Video Game High School: Season Two ($808,000) to be the most-funded Kickstarter ever in the category; the third-highest is David Fincher’s planned adaptation of Eric Powell’s cult-favorite comic book series The Goon. It’s still far from the most-funded single campaign ever on Kickstarter; film and video lags behind categories like comics, engineering, music, games and technology where $1 million or more on a Kickstarter campaign is uncommon but not unheard of by a long shot.
