Vertigo today announced that they will launch six new titles this year in hopes of revitalizing the DC imprint that’s fallen almost completely into disuse in recent times.Springboarding from successes like Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy’s The Wake and Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman: Overture, the New York Times reported today that they will launch a number of titles including Hinterkind by Ian Edginton, “which focuses on a post-apocalyptic world in which the creatures of myth and legend have returned,” and The Discipline by Peter Milligan, “an erotic thriller about a woman at the center of an shadow war that spans eons.”

“It’s so liberating to know that I can talk about all these wonderful books,” said Shelly Bond, the executive editor of the imprint.

The Sandman: Overture will hit on October 30, the paper reports, and they’ve got a first look at the cover to #1, shown at right.

“When I was writing Sandman from 1987 to 1996, I never had the feeling at any point that approximately 50 million people were looking over my shoulder scrutinizing ever word.”

The paper reports that “The series will be published every other month and will alternate with a special edition of each issue, which will include more of the artwork (because of translucent word balloons developed by the letterer Todd Klein), as well as behind-the-scenes commentary and character sketches.”

The Dead Boy Detectives, set in the universe of The Sandman, will also launch in November. The remaining three new Vertigo titles are not mentioned in the story, although it’s likely we’ll find out soon with the October comics set to be solicited next week.
