Legends of Tomorrow is looking to be a juggernaut addition to the CW’s roster. The jam packed team show, debuting in 2016, has the likes of CW stalwarts: the Atom, White Canary, Captain Cold, Heatwave, and Firestorm along with newcomers Rip Hunter, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl. The series will see the unlikely group of allies travelling through time to take on the immortal villain, Vandal Savage, who is a fantastic foil as you can literally jump to any timeline and there he is! From the present to the future to the past, the series promises to potentially offer more super heroics than Arrow and the Flash combined, simply looking at the enormous cast. It will be interesting to see how this hodge podge of super powered characters interacts, especially with two villains thrown into the mix, that’s for sure.

While the Flash has its fair share of characters on the team, we’re taking this opportunity to walk through characters from Arrow that we’d like to see jump into the fray. What’s so great about Legends of Tomorrow is that thanks to the time travel aspect, nothing is out of bounds. Perhaps we’ll see characters long dead joining the team or maybe we’ll see ancestors of characters we’ve grown to love make appearances here and there? Who knows, with the references to Superman and Batman in the trailer, maybe we’ll see one of the World’s Finest even make an appearance?
Deathstroke
Let’s be honest, Arrow’s second season was most likely the best of the bunch, thanks in no part to Manu Bennett’s portrayal as Slade Wilson. Linked to Oliver Queen’s past, Deathstroke acted as a mentor first to Ollie and a villain next. Blaming Queen for the death of his lady love, Slade stormed Starling City with a group of super powered fiends, bringing death and destruction wherever he went. Ultimately, the Arrow was able to take down Wilson and left him in a prison on the very island where the two met. While Slade made a brief reappearance in Season 3 for one episode, he’s been criminally underused since his incarceration following the Season 2 finale.
Slade’s role in Legends could be anything really and he would still be a great addition. Deathstroke would be the perfect right hand man to Vandal Savage, appearing in the present, or perhaps older in the future. Wilson would make a welcome addition to the Legends team proper, hobnobbing with the likes of Captain Cold and Heatwave. Heck, we could even see Wilson in the past and see who he was in the 1970s, which was a time period that the group is shown visiting in the series’ trailer. Deathstroke needs a return to the CW’s roster and Legends is the perfect place for it.
Constantine
No, I’m not cheating with this one! Now that Matt Ryan’s NBC series has been canceled, Constantine has already made a guest appearance on Arrow this season, assisting Oliver and Laurel in returning Sara Lance’s soul to her body. Ryan’s portrayal as John Constantine is dead-on: sarcastic, ill-tempered but ultimately harboring a good heart, making him a welcome addition to the Legends of Tomorrow. As we saw at the end of his recent Arrow appearance, Constantine has flown the coop once again to areas unknown, freeing him up to appear in some time travelling mischief. John has seen his fair share of supernatural threats in his time, and even though he has no scientific based powers of his own, John stands toe to toe with the other heroes in the CW-verse.
Legends of Tomorrow has a huge number of guns in the holster and the universe is well represented, but surprisingly enough, we don’t have any representatives of the magic community, which is where John comes in. Surely, at some point in their adventures, and especially considering the origins of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the group will need some magical artillery backing them up. Constantine NEEDS a home, and until he gets a series of his own once again, I’ll settle for being a member of a newly formed super group.
Tommy Merlyn
Thomas “Tommy” Merlyn was Oliver’s closest friend in Arrow’s first season, even though at times the two didn’t always see eye to eye. While Ollie went down a path as the city’s protector, Tommy struggled with his wealth, his relationships, and his father, who just so happened to turn out to be the biggest throne in Ollie’s side. In the first season finale, Tommy died saving Laurel’s life but gave a fond goodbye to his friend as he was crushed underneath a collapsing building thanks to his father’s nefarious schemes. While Tommy never got the chance to don any super hero regalia, his importance to the show cannot be understated and his friendly demeanor is still missed to this day in the walls of Arrow.
Legends’ time travelling core makes it possible for the resurgence of any dead characters from Arrow without diminishing their untimely demises. Tommy is a perfect example of a character who is long gone who may add a distinct creative element to the team. How does Tommy handle knowing that he is going to die? How does he take in the knowledge of his father’s present and future actions? How does he look at his friend Oliver now as the Green Arrow, hanging out with other super powered heroes? These are all some great questions we’d like to see answered with Tommy joining the cast.
Huntress
It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress make an appearance. The daughter of a mobster, Helena decides to become a vigilante, at first assisting Ollie in his war on crime in Starling City, but then falling to her bloodthirsty rage, trying to kill not only criminals, but any innocents that got in her way. Attempting to take down her father once and for all, Huntress tries to kill him only for her dad to die in a crossfire. Huntress’ desire for revenge was all consuming and so when she found that ultimately killing her father did nothing for her, she was left empty and broken. Helena made no further appearances outside of Season 2, so it’s well past time she returned and perhaps Legends of Tomorrow is the perfect fit.
In the comics, the Huntress is mostly seen as a hero, even though she has killed every once in a while. Currently, she lives in the DCU as a visitor from Earth 2, hanging out with another of the universe’s heroine’s Power Girl. In the past, she’s been a member of the Justice League and it would be great to see her rehabilitated completely in the episodes of Legends of Tomorrow. Helena would make for a welcome wildcard to the group.
