Earlier today, my friendly FedEx deliveryman dropped off a nondescript box brandished with “Phoenix Biogenic” across the front. Inside, I found a LG cell phone with a letter from  somebody by the name of Albright from the aforementioned company. I (and 200) others have been “pre-selected to experience a revolutionary technological singularity.” All I had to do was boot up this phone, and follow the instructions!

Now, when I started it up, the phone had a message already waiting directing me to the website for Phoenix Biogenic. Digging around a bit, you learn that the company makes money by taking healthy minds, and putting them into new bodies that are “genetically engineered for perfection.” Sounds like fun. Outside of some photos, brief snippets of information and the video below, there isn’t much else to go on.

Like the sleuth the Internet has taught me to be, I did a bit more digging to see what this might actually be connected to. The only thing I could come up with is that it might have something to do with the movie Self/Less. Check this plot summary I found over at IMDB.

It reads:

An extremely wealthy man, dying from cancer, undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man. But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of the body’s origin and the organization that will kill to protect its cause.

With that in mind, it does sound a lot like what Phoenix Biogenic is all about. Not to mention, Matthew Goode is attached to the film playing a character named Albright. (Did my package come from Matthew?) All I know is, the letter told me to stick around and have the phone ready for tomorrow around 11:30AM (Eastern) for some more information. If this is indeed tied to Self/Less I am super excited to see what director Tarsem Singh and stars Ryan Reynolds & Ben Kingsley have up their sleeves.

Check back tomorrow to see where this adventure takes us. In the meantime, check out some photos we snapped of the package and the images that were on the device.
