With all of these action properties getting series remakes, they start to blend together. It’s hard to remember which of these shows is supposed to be good, and you end up not watching any.

If that’s the case, there’s one you need to give a little more thought.

Taken, the new series on NBC, has broken the classic action mold, and has plenty of viewers talking. While it comes from the Liam Neeson film trilogy, the show completely stands on its own – in more ways than one.

If you haven’t given Taken a shot yet, you’re missing out on something great. Still don’t believe us? Here’s a few reasons why Taken needs to be a part of your Monday nights.

Premise Is More Than You Think

Many wrote Taken off as just another remake of a classic action film, thinking it was following the same story as Liam Neeson’sย version.

When you watch the show however, you realize that there’s much more to it. The Taken series is definitely tied to the movie, but it’s got its own premise.

The series is actually a prequel to the original movie. Clive Standenย plays Bryan Mills – the same character played by Liam Neeson. Over the course of the show, fans will learn Bryan’s origins, and how he became the dangerous man he was in the movie.

Solid Actors In Lead Roles

Seriously, the actors that were cast in Taken know how to bring it. They all put in great performances week in, and week out.

Standenย – veteran of Vikings – anchors the team, but the rest of the leads are equally as talented. Jennifer Bealsย steals many of the scenes she’s in, and Gaius Charles it proving to be one of the show’sย stand-out performers.

There are a ton of talented performers that weren’t mentioned, but they’re all worth watching.

Cable-Level Action

In many instances, shows on basic cable can’t be as gritty or intense as their upper-tier competition. It’s often hard to believe in the action happening on a NBC, when they have to compete with networks like FX and AMC.

Fortunately, Taken breaks that mold. The show captures the bold direction of the film, and finds a way to toe the line of violence. It all feels like you’re watching a PG-13 action film, but the show stays within its channel’s regulations.

If you haven’t checked out Taken yet, you should definitely give it a chance. Since the show is only three episodes in, it won’t take you too long to get caught up. New episodes air at 10pm ET, every Monday on NBC.
