While most comic book fans are eagerly looking forward to both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, there are haters of one of the two movies. Anytime an article appears online comparing the two movies, there are inevitable comments trashing one of the two movies. For Avengers haters, the line usually is that it’s a comic book movie for kids which can’t measure up to Nolan’s Batman franchise.Because Christopher Nolan has repeatedly delivered quality movies, he has developed a strong online fan following. Nolan fans want to see The Dark Knight Rises break all past box office records. Nolan’s fan base is so strong that they will turn out to see another movie if there is a new Dark Knight Rises trailer or prologue attached. When the first Dark Knight Rises trailer was released in front of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, many tweeted that they bought tickets just to see the Dark Knight Rises trailer and then left. The huge opening that Mission: Impossible โ Ghost Protocol had at IMAX theaters was also partially credited to a Dark Knight Rises prologue being shown before the movie. In addition to Nolan’s devoted followers, DC Comics and Marvel Comics each have their devoted fanboys. While many collect comic books from both publishers, there are those who swear by either only DC Comics or only Marvel Comics. The exclusive DC Comics fanboys don’t want to see The Avengers do better than their beloved Batman movies. Now, an interesting new wrinkle from Warner Bros. has put those Avengers haters who are eagerly anticipating The Dark Knight Rises in a quandary. The third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises will air before The Avengers movie on its opening weekend. While it’s unknown when the trailer will arrive online, Warner Bros. has in the past often let new trailers run in the theaters for a weekend first. In theory, we might expect the Dark Knight Trailer to premiere in front of The Avengers on Friday, May 4, but not be officially released online until Monday, May 7 at the earliest. The Avengers is possible the only 2012 summer movie which has a real shot at having a better opening weekend than The Dark Knight Rises this year. If Avengers haters go to The Avengers just to see the new Dark Knight Rises trailer, then they might very well help to push an already strong Avengers movie to an unbeatable opening weekend box office record.
