Rollins was due to defend his title against former teammate Roman Reigns at the Survivor Series event on November 22. A renewed rivalry between the two has been building over the last couple of weeks, with the match billed as Reigns finally getting his proper shot at Rollins. Rollins controversially pinned Reigns at the end of a brutal match between Reigns and then-champ Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania earlier this year, stealing the title. Rollins will vacate the title due to the injury.

The injury was first reported by ESPN reporter (and former WWE personality) Jonathan Coachman on twitter.

The Survivor Series special event will now play host to a tournament to see who walks away with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but WWE says “details have not yet been finalized.”
