That massive character network is the focus of Fox’s latest Days of Future Past Blu Ray featurette to hit the web (via IGN). Producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg discussed the responsibility of bringing such a deep bench of characters, each with their own extensive story and publication history, to life. As the film’s other producers explained, each mutant was brought into the film with a specific purpose. Those reasons, according to the producers, ranged from story potential, to mutant ability, to “look.”
Director Bryan Singer closed the clip by describing how the expanded cast was “Just the beginning” of laying the foundation of a much larger and richer X-Men cinematic universe. With the new mutants already established in Days of Future Past, it would be easier to push a lesser-known character (say, Warbird) closer to the spotlight in a future X-Men project.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is available on Bluย Ray and DVD this Tuesday, October 7th.
