With Sentinels and possibly Apocalypse on the docket for X-Men: Days of Future Past, it’s probably not a great surprise to learn that the members of the Hellfire Club, who played a significant role in X-Men: First Class, won’t be returning for the sequel–but up until now it hadn’t been made official.Still, with January Jones saying that she didn’t see room for Emma Frost in the film and the recent news that Azazel hasn’t been called back, some fans have been wondering whether the villains from the first film would be forgotten completely in the second or whether some of them might come back to work with whoever is posing the threat this time around.Well, according to The Geek Files, “studio sources [are saying] that ‘the Hellfire Club is not in this story’,” meaning that in addition to the two villains who have already ruled themselves out, Riptide (Alex Gonzalez) and Angel Salvadore (Zoe Kravitz) can take a seat on the bench for this one, as well. With such a large cast already, omissions like this are probably not surprising; still, the convention seems to be to retain your first villain for as long as humanly possible in most superhero films (Loki is appearing in his third soon; Willem Dafoe a constant presence in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films even though he died in the first one–plus, of course, Magneto).
