It’s new comic day’s eve here at ComicBook.com, and with the myriad of excellent titles out on shelves right now, it can be easy to get a bit overwhelmed at the choices.

While your pull list might already be full, there are plenty of books that are worthy of your attention this Wednesday, including the five books highlighted on this list. Whether the book is a great jumping-on point, a big finale, or just something different than the predominant superhero fare, there’s something here for everyone. Of course, there are more than five books worth your time this week, so here are a few runners-up that you should definitely check out if your wallet permits.
The New Gods Special #1 is written by Shane Davis with art by Michelle Delecki and Davis. The backup story is written and drawn by Walter Simonson. You can find the official description below.
In a feature length story, Orion and Lightray must come to the aid of Forager and his people, as Kalibak has established a brutal dictatorship over the Bug colony. Dead of Winter #1 is written by Kyle Starks with art by Gabo, Brian Hurtt, and Bill Crabtree. You can find the official description below.

Matthew Mueller: Elsewhere #1
There are few mysteries more researched and investigated than the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, and it acts as the basis for Image’s new book Elsewhere #1.
Plenty of theories abound as to what happened to Earhart, but Elsewhere takes that in a fantasy-laced direction. A new land, new species, flying animals, and warlords all populate this world, but it’s the humans she will meet that will shock readers even more.
Earhart won’t be the only historical figure from America’s past in the series, so if you love history mixed with a fantasy setting, you’re going to get a kick out of Elsewhere.
Elsewhere #1 is written by Jay Faerber with art by Ron Riley and Sumeyye Kesgin with a variant by Andrew Robinson. The official description is featured below.

Russ Burlingame: Mech Cadet Yu #1
Greg Pak has always loved the world of giant robots, and Mech Cadet Yu will finally give him the chance to bring that love to comics in a fun and unique way.
Pak spoke with ComicBook.com’s Russ Burlingame about the series and where things pick up in the first issue.
“Our hero is Stanford Yu, a janitor’s kid who works at the Sky Corps Academy in Los Robos, Arizona. Every four years, a group of mysterious giant robots arrives from outer space to bond with cadets from the Academy. As a janitor’s kid, Stanford should never even dream of bonding with one of those robots. But this year, something goes very wrong… or maybe very right.”
While working with giant robots is fun, the heart of the story comes in the form of Stanford Yu.
“I just love the interactions of these kids and the dynamic of a janitor’s boy getting his shot at glory in this elite military academy. It’s a classic underdog story with tons of heart and huge stakes, and I’m loving every minute of working on it.”

Jamie Lovett: Generations: Banner Hulk & The Totally Awesome Hulk #1
There doesn’t seem to be room for two Hulks, and in Generations, the original Hulk Bruce Banner wants his title back.
How are these two meeting in the first place though? That question persists between all of the punches being thrown, but Marvel’s editor and chief Axel Alonso did emphasize these stories do exist and aren’t being thrust aside.
“These stories do happen, they really count. They really matter. This isn’t some alternate reality story or some time-travel story,” Alonso explained. “I wish I could tell you the mechanism [to bring these characters back], but that’s also a bit of a spoiler.”

Jim Viscardi: X-Men: Gold #9
Kitty Pryde has constantly had her hands full since she took over the leadership role in X-Men: Gold, and things are going to get even more complicated in X-Men: Gold #9.
It’s bad enough that the government is trying to justify essentially expelling mutants from New York proper, but that is nothing compared to the enemies coming down the pike, including one of the X-Men’s deadliest enemies from days past.
Later this year the X-Men: Gold team will unite with X-Men: Blue for a Marvel Legacy team-up against another renowned villain from the X-Men’s past. That will be the eccentric mogul Mojo, and you can expect plenty of other names to show up in the big event as well.

Charlie Ridgely: Black Bolt #4
Sometimes unforeseen circumstances make for unlikely allies, and that is certainly the case for Black Bolt and the Absorbing Man.
The two don’t much in common, except for the need to confront their past. Both will get that chance in the newest issue, though both might not get the chance at escape.
