The Valiant universe is preparing for war once again. Valiant Comics has finally revealed new details about Harbinger Wars 2, the long-awaited event first announced in 2016.

Harbinger Wars 2 will be a creative joint effort by the teams behind Valiant’s X-O Manowar, Matt Kindt and Tom Giorello, and Secret Weapons, Academy Award-nominated Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer and Raul Allen.

Harbinger Wars 2 kicks off in May 2018. As the two covers included in the gallery below show, the event will pit some of Valiant’s most popular characters against each other. Match-ups include Livewire vs. Bloodshot and X-O Manowar vs. Peter Stanchek of the Renegades.

Kindt and Giorello’s X-O Manowar series currently has Aric of Dacia fighting a war on another planet. His presence on the cover of Harbinger Wars 2 #2 foreshadows Aric’s return to Earth.

Livewire’s presence on the cover of Harbinger Wars 2 #1 indicates that she will have a major role to play in the events, which will be a direct follow-up to Heisserer and Allen’s Secret Weapons series.

Harbinger Wars 2 will presumably arrive just months before Sony Pictures launches the Valiant cinematic universe with the Bloodshot movie, which is being written by Heisserer. The film doesn’t have a firm release date yet but is expected in late 2018.

Bloodshot will be the first of five planned movies, followed by Harbinger and eventually culminating in an adaptation of the original Harbinger Wars event, which saw Toyo Harada’s Harbinger Foundation, Bloodshot and his handlers at Project Rising Spirit, the Renegades, and the Project Rising Spirit escapees who would eventually become known as Generation Zero all locked in conflict.

Valiant has another live-action project in the works in Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe the first project from Valiant Digital. The web series stars Michael Rowe (Arrow) as Ninjak as well as Jason David Frank (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) as Bloodshot and John Morrison (Lucha Underground) as the Eternal Warrior. Valiant recently revealed the first look at the series’ live-action versions of X-O Manowar, Livewire, and Archer.

In Ninjak vs. The Valiant Universe, Colin King is Ninjak, MI-6’s deadliest intelligence operative, and weapons expert. When the ruthless assassin Roku exploits his greatest weakness, Ninjak will be forced to betray his closest allies. Now, on the run, he must face off against the most powerful heroes known to man for a high-octane, take-no-prisoners trial by fire more perilous and more unpredictable than any he’s faced before. In 2017, the world’s most dangerous super-spy goes to war with the Valiant Universeโ€ฆ
