Young Justice was a DC animated series that took awhile to reach its status as a cult-favorite. Season 1 largely flew under the radar when it aired, and by the time fans had discovered the show on Netflix, season 2 was done and the show was cancelled.

By the time Young Justice season 2 came to Netflix, fans were clamoring for the stories of Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy and the rest of the gang to continue – especially since season 2 ended on a big cliffhanger with the reveal of a secret alliance between the cabal of DC villains known as “The Light” and Darkseid, lord of Apokolips. That was an exciting stage being set for a superhero story fans would never get to see.
…Until now.
With the announcement that Young Justice season 3 is happening, we have pulled together a list of 5 Things Fans Want to See in the new season.
Honorable Mention: The Fate of Wally West
This shouldn’t take too long to resolve in the new season: After his heroic sacrifice to help save the world, is Kid Flash/Wally Westย reallyย dead and gone? Or is he perhaps lost somewhere in the speed force?ย
It would be a fun spin on the classic Barry Allen “Crisis” death (and eventual rebirth), so here’s hoping one of our favorite characters on the show makes a triumphant comeback.ย
Another Well-Balanced Big Story
One of the strengths ofย Young Justiceย is the way it is able to balance well-constructed character drama with episodic superhero adventure stories, as well as larger over-arching storylines.ย ย
With Season 3 already amassing to be something as big as Darkseid and The Light working together, fans want to see no less than the following:ย
- An epic war story (like the “Great Darkness Saga” storlyine, perhaps?). ย
- A true “coming of age tale” for our heroes, taking on a big threat like Apokolips.ย
- The continuationย of character arcs and relationships built over the past 2 seasons.ย
- Episodes that are self-contained character stories that also fit into a serialized storyline.ย
ย
Fresh Familiar Heroes
Young Justiceย season 2 did a great job of jumping forward in time to a point where our young heroes form season 1 had matured into new versions of themselves, while still retaining their core characters and relationship dynamics.ย
Fans wantย Young Justiceย season 3 to do something similar: push the characters forward into new versions of themselves, while still retaining the familiar characteristics and dynamics.ย
ย
New DC Animated Villains
We know thatย Young Justiceย season 3 will bring us villains like Darkseid and The Light (Vandal Savage, Ra’s al Ghul, Lex Luthor, etc.); but truthfully, we’ve seen all those villains before.ย
The show has not been shy about bringing in villains from around the DC Universe – so let’s maybe see some new ones brought to the screen – or at the very least, new versions of foes we haven’t seen in a DC animated series in awhile.ย
Moreย Teen Titans
Young Justiceย has had a great lineup of characters, but one thing fans have been missing is some more friendly faces from theย Teen Titans team.ย
It was understandable why more of the Titans crew didn’t get added to the lineup in season 2:ย Teen Titans Go!ย was just about to launch, and the two shows need to be distinguished from one another. However,ย Teen Titans Go!ย is big enough now thatย Young Justiceย season 3 should be able to give us different versions of characters like Starfire, Raven and Cyborg (orย so many others from theย Titansย comics over the years) and not have any problem helping them standout.
ย
Justice League Battle
DC already made the animated featuredย Justice League vs. Teen Titans, andย Young Justiceย has already given us a few smaller match ups – but in season 3, we want to see the team take on the Justice League, full force!
We’re not just talking the usual “mind control” excuse for why the two teams fight brieflyย (saw that in season 2); no, we want to see “Young Justice” step out of their mentors’ shadow and have a fundamental disagreement that puts them at odds with The League.ย
That’s an interesting dynamic that would add a rebel edge to the new Young Justice team. Best off all: the show has already laid so much groundwork to make it happen, and payoff in great storytelling.ย
