Today, fans of the DC Extended Universe saw a bit of a shake-up happen to Warner Brothers’ schedule. Not long ago, fans learned that the studio pushed back the release date for Aquaman yet again, dragging its release to December 2018. In its wake, fans have been left to wonder what Warner Bros. will do this year when it comes to DC films. Sure, Aquaman is slated to begin production in the near future, but some have hoped the studio would kick off work on yet another film. And, now, one source has suggested Warner Bros. is looking to tackle another film in 2017.

Over on Twitter, a reporter for Variety recently updated his followers about chatter he’s heard about the studio’s plan. Reports have already suggested The Batman won’t be ready to film until 2018, and Justin Kroll says Warner Bros. would still “like one more DC property to shoot this year other than Aquaman.”
According to the reporter, the studio is looking into five projects and their current timetables. “The 5 films being considered are [Gotham City] Sirens, Flash, [Green] Lantern, Squad 2, and Dark Universe,” Kroll wrote.
Continuing, Kroll then stressed, “That said if scripts aren’t ready to go, studio is content just shooting Aquaman this year till films are ready to go”
While many fans would be pleased to see the studio take its time with its DC projects, speculation has already started over which of the five films may get fast-tracked. It seems unlikely that The Flash would get the go-ahead given its recent woes. The film is currently being rewritten from the ground-up after the loss of both a writer and director.
As for Dark Universe, the film does have a director and writer attached, but few updates about the ensemble film have been released. Given its larger scale, Warner Bros. may hold off on the project until the DCUE is in a more stable place. Green Lantern Corps also has writers attached to the project, but the matter of casting is unresolved.
So far, Warner Bros. best option for sped-up shooting would fall with Gotham City Sirens or Suicide Squad 2. The latter film recently nabbed a writer and is actively looking for a director. And, with Gotham City Sirens, the film has both a director and writer in-place. One of its leads is already cast thanks to Margot Robbie, and it smaller scale would be easier to accommodate production-wise.
In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโBatman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโit may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League is set for release November 17. Are you excited to finally see Zack Snyder‘s DC team-up film? Let us know with your vote in our Anticipation Rankings!
