Spoilers for the Legends of Tomorrow episode ‘Doomworld‘ below!

Tonight’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow saw the DCTV universe as we know it taken into an entirely new direction, when the Legion of Doom used the Spear of Destiny to create an alternate reality. While the changes to reality on behalf of the Legion of Doom seem fairly contained to Legends of Tomorrow, one action near the episode’s end could affect the larger universe as we know it – and it involves a tragic end to a beloved character.
Amaya Jiwe/Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) briefly got hold of the Spear of Destiny during an altercation with the Legion of Doom. She was able to begin to recite the proper incantation and activate the Spear – only to be shot at by the cold gun of Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). Amaya became frozen completely in ice, which Snart then shattered into many pieces, killing her.
The rest of the Legends were heartbroken by this, and used that as motivation to come up with a plan to get the Spear back – going back to 1916, where the Legion of Doom first got the Spear to begin with in ‘Fellowship of the Spear’.
With this in mind, it’s unclear if Amaya’s fate is actually sealed by the events of ‘Doomworld.’ If the Legends are able to get the Spear away from the Legion of Doom, then the events of ‘Doomworld’ will not have happened, and Amaya will be brought back to life.
While the team will run into an earlier version of Amaya in next week’s ‘Aruba’, they won’t exactly be able to convince her to avoid her tragic fate. If other time travel media is any indication, there’s a chance that running into these earlier versions of the Legends could cause time to fold in on itself, and cause the earlier Legends to be erased from existence. So, the safest bet is on the team getting the Spear back and thus bringing Amaya back to life.
Given the fact that Amaya has grown into a fan-favorite in her time on the show, here’s hoping that that’s what will happen.
In addition, she’s part of one of the strongest lineage of characters within the DCTV universe, with her granddaughter Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echikunwoke) taking up the mantle of Vixen in the present day. Mari can’t exactly do that if Amaya’s totem is officially destroyed with her death, which would have larger ramifications on the timeline of the larger DCTV universe.
This wasn’t the only death seen within ‘Doomworld’. In the episode’s opening minutes, Amaya and Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) fought against an alternate vigilante version of Arrow‘s Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). They promptly brought her to Damian Darhk, who then had Sara kill Felicity.
Do you think Amaya will be brought back to life in ‘Aruba’? Or is there a chance she’s gone forever? Sound off in the comments below:
