In a surprising turn of events, it looks like Josh Gad is trying to break the Internet ahead of Wonder Woman’s debut. The iconic heroine may be getting her first live-action standalone this week, but the Frozen actor is eyeing a spotlight of his own. In recent weeks, Gad has taken to Twitter and dropped vague hints about a connection he may be sharing with a Batman villain. And, now, Gad has just dropped his biggest teaser yet.
Taking to Twitter, Gad just posted a photo of himself with two well-known men in the DCEU. “Nothing to see hereโฆ,” Gad captioned the photo, but fans see plenty to point out. Not only is the actor seen posing for a photo in one of DC Comics’ buildings, but the actor is holding onto a Batman comic with the Penguin on it.

Oh – he’s also posing for the picture with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg of DC Entertainment. That counts for something, right?
Social media is already lighting up over whether Gad’s newest post is meant to troll or tease. There has been no official word from either Warner Bros. or DC Entertainment regarding Gad’s casting as the Penguin. Still, there are plenty of fans who are hopeful the theatrical actor will nab the villainous role.
Fans of the DCEU first starts to speculate over Gad’s casting back in May. Gad posted a photo of the Penguin on social media. Netizens latched onto the share, prompting artists to create concept work of what the actor would look like as the Penguin. Gad even went so far as to share some of the pieces, but the star has been quiet about the superhero possibility. That is, until now.
Before fans get their hopes up too high, they should remember that nothing is said and done until an official casting release is made. And, even if Gad is asked to play the Penguin, it may not be within the DCEU. A vibrant DC Animated Universe lives beyond DC Entertainment’s live-action pursuits, and Gad does have experience with voice acting.
When Gad was most recently asked about his bid for the Penguin, the actor brushed off the plea as good fun.
“[I’m] just having some fun,” Gad told MTV News about his ongoing teasers. “Just having some fun! Really, I promise! There’s nothing to…there’s no there there. The internet just goes wild. I’m just having some fun putting things out there.”
