The CW has released promotional images for part four of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event. The Arrow episode, “Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Four,” will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT on January 14. It will be immediately followed by part 5, the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow hour of the crossover, in which fans will get their first glimpse at the post-Crisis Arrowverse. There are a lot of theories as to exactly how it will all play out, but so far, few concrete facts about what is coming following the events of the Crisis. In the fourth hour, co-written by legendary comic book writer Marv Wolfman (author of the original Crisis on Infinite Earths comic book with artist George Perez), Oliver Queen has finally, as he says in his opening monologue every week, “become something else.” And in the fifth? Well, if you’ve been around long enough to remember the marketing tag for the original comics, you can guess what it says.

OLIVER HAS BECOME SOMETHING ELSE IN PART FOUR OF “CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.” EPISODE PENNED BY MARV WOLFMAN & MARC GUGGENHEIM – Stuck in the Vanishing Point, the Paragons search for a way to escape. The futility of the situation is compounded by The Flash’s (guest star Grant Gustin) disappearance. However, hope appears in the form of Oliver (Stephen Amell), who reveals that he has become something else. Meanwhile, the origin stories for The Monitor (guest star LaMonica Garrett) and Anti-Monitor are revealed. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Marv Wolfman & Marc Guggenheim.

The images seem to depict the paragons relying on Ryan Choi and Lex Luthor to get the destroyed apparatus that powers Vanishing Point up and running again, likely so that they can travel back to the dawn of time for a showdown with the Anti-Monitor — another event we see here.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” has loomed over the Arrowverse for years. The series premiere of The Flash featured an allusion to the hero disappearing amid red skies in the year 2024. During the original comics event, red skies were a sign of doom to come to a world during the Crisis. At the end of last season, a couple of things happened: The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), who had appeared in “Elseworlds,” reappeared and revealed that Oliver Queen was destined to die in the Crisis…and the future newspaper at STAR Labs rolled back the expected date of the Crisis from 2024 to 2019.

The “Crisis” event brings together the heroes from multiple Earths to battle against the Anti-Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), a godlike villain who threatens to destroy all reality. In the comics, the story ended with the deaths of The Flash and Supergirl, and the destruction of DC’s multiverse, leading to a single Earth with a complex history packed with hundreds of heroes. The battle brings together together characters from all six of the current DC Comics adaptations on The CW (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Black Lightning), along with characters and actors from Titans, the 1990 version of The Flash, the short-lived Birds of Prey, Smallville, Superman Returns, Tim Burton’s Batman, and the iconic 1966 Batman series.
