Arrow Season 5: 5 Things We Want to See

When season 4 of Arrow ended, Star City and Team Arrow were both left as a complete disaster. Most of Team Arrow bounced after the death of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and the battle with Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). Oliver’s sidekick Diggle (David Ramsey), his pal on the police force Captain Lance (Paul Blackthorne), and even Thea (Willa Holland) left, leaving the rather damaged Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) behind as the only remaining member. With Oliver taking off to become the interim Mayor of Star City and Felicity still grieving, it’s safe the say that Team Arrow disbanded, leaving our heroes in a state of disarray.

Season 5 is quickly approaching and plenty of casting news has been announced, giving us a glimmer of hope that a new Team Arrow is on its way.If not, all of these new big bads, like mob boss Tobias Church and vigilante Wild Dog or supervillain Prometheus could easily dismantle what’s left of Star City.

With that saidโ€ฆ here are 5 things that we would like to see in season 5 of Arrow.

Flashpoint

There’s no doubt that the “Flarrowverse” is all connected in more ways than one, especially Arrow and The Flash. The final episode of last season’s The Flash, left Barry Allen making a selfish decision to go back in time to save his mother from impending doom, in turn, creating an alternate timeline and setting up the events of Flashpoint.

Considering both shows are on the same timeline (that is now defunct) we expect to see the fallout from Flashpoint bleed over onto Arrow. If The CW wants to keep the Flarrowverse alive, we better see Flashpoint affect Arrow as well, or else the impending crossovers won’t make any sense at all. Maybe Oliver and Felicity are two completely different people who have no clue who Barry Allen is? Or Green Arrow doesn’t exist at allโ€ฆ

Stephen Amell himself said that Flashpoint would have a big impact on Arrow, and of course, we want to see how all of that will go down.

Mr. Terrific

Echo Kellum joined the cast of Arrow in season 4 as Curtis Holt with the assumption that he would be suiting up as his superhero counterpart, Mr. Terrific. But no, we were just teased the entire season and never once saw a glimpse of Mr. Terrific, other than some references to his T-Spheres. We already know that Kellum has been promoted to series regular, and it’s about time he shows up as a hero.

Curtis did help Oliver defeat Darhkโ€ฆin plainclothes. Basically we’re biting at the bit to see Curtis finally reveal that he is, indeed, Mr. Terrific and to put the darn suit on. In season 5, we expect to see Curtis join forces with Oliver and become an official member of Team Arrowโ€ฆor what’s left of it.

Artemis

We already know that in season 5, Madison McLaughlin is returning as Evelyn Sharp, but not as Black Canary. She’ll be taking on the mantle of Artemis, which is definitely exciting because we always want to see more female superheroes reppin’ on-screen.ย  She’s already set to appear in multiple episodes, we just don’t know what her role will be.

In the comics, Artemis started as a villain with the Injustice Society, but she eventually joined Young Justice as a hero and fellow sidekick of Green Arrow. So, it’s a bit of a mystery as to how she will be portrayed on Arrow.

Because Artemis is also set to appear in multiple episodes, we want to see a full character arc of her transformation from bad girl to good girl (and another addition to Team Arrow). Maybe she first shows up as a villain, but is taken in by Oliver and trained to be his right-hand woman. Let’s be honest, it would be fun to see a little romance here, too. Sorry, Felicity.ย

Less Flashbacks

Alright, let’s be real for a second โ€“ the amount of flashbacks in Arrow started to get pretty annoying after a while. Using too many flashbacks as a story-telling mechanism is kind of a cheap and easy way to explain things. This isn’t to say that all blasts from the past are unnecessary, because some Arrow flashbacks did serve an important purpose when it came to the current plot.

We already know that Oliver will be dealing with the Russian mob organization called Bratva and Dolph Lundgren as a member of some secret government agency through flashbacks, but considering how torn up Team Arrow is, we’d like to see more of the present.

It’s also been confirmed by the shows producer, Marc Guggenheim, that we won’t be seeing any more flashbacks after season 5โ€ฆthanks!

Back to Basics

Remember when Oliver Queen suddenly gained a sense of humor? Or when he became more concerned with romance than actual fighting? It’s not uncommon for a series to toy with the tone over a number of seasons, but Arrow noticeably went from being a gritty crime drama to a light-hearted superhero romp. Alright, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but still what happened to the hardened Oliver Queen that we first met in season 1?

While showrunners are promising a darker tone for season 5 and the end of that bizarre supernatural crap, we’re still a little waryย that Arrow can truly get back to basics. The show itself has evolved so much over 4 seasons already.

If anyone is wondering, we want to see more action, more violence, and more of the Oliver Queen we were introduced to in season 1, along with a more grounded storyline โ€“ enough with the magic already.
