The Bane threat has been handled and Gotham Girl’s sanity restored, which means it’s time for some reflection for Batman. Odds are you didn’t exactly expect the move he makes on the final page of Batman #24.

Spoilers incoming for Batman #24, so you’ve been warned.
In the aftermath of Bane’s attempted takeover of Gotham and his threat to Batman‘s family and allies, Bruce isn’t in the best place emotionally. Granted, he won the day on this one and even managed to restore Gotham Girl’s sanity as intended, but as he admits to her, that doesn’t mean he’s happy.
Apparently, there is only one way to correct that, and that’s marriage (via USA Today).
Batman gives chase to Catwoman on the rooftops of Gotham once more, and once he finally catches up to her he tells her a story about the night they first met. Selina was attempting to steal a diamond that night, and though Batman caught her and took it back, he didn’t just give it back to the owners. Instead, he bought it, and in Batman #24 he takes it out and gets down on one knee to propose to the woman he’s long loved.
That’s right, Batman asks Catwoman to marry him, saying “I knew. Even at the beginning. I knew I’d need it. I needed it. Just like I need you.”
Batman and Catwoman have circled each other for some time. From romantic flings to attempts at relationships and of course their ongoing adversarial relationship when she steals something. Still, this marks a bold new direction, especially if she says yes.
You can see the proposal up close with spoiler images in the gallery.
