However, just as the Justice League star has once again started to convince fans that he was still very much into his Batman role, he may have indicated in a recent interview that he’s actually looking towards an imminent end to his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman.

In an interview with ExtraTV during the Justice League press junket, Affleck stated “I don’t know about that,” when asked if he will build on his Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, an Justice League appearances with two more appearances, for a total of five outings as Batman. The actor added “We’ll see what he future holds,” which is exactly where many insiders are speculating things stand at this point.

It’s been no secret that Affleck has had a tough run as Batman, both on camera and off camera. On camera, the actor become a meme joke after the poor reception of Batman v Superman; off camera, Affleck has had a string of very public stumbles, from a separation from wife Jennifer Garner, to a more recent sexual harassment scandal – not to mention the constant barrage of Batman-related question that visibly wore the actor down. That’s all to say: it’s not surprising that he might want to leave the role behind, sooner before later.

In terms of the DC Films Universe storyline, there’s a nice opportunity for Affleck’s Bruce Wayne / Batman to either step back or be eliminated after Justice Legue, allowing a new DC character to inherit the mantle during Matt Reeves’ The Batman solo movie.
