In an interview with WEEI Sports, out of Affleck’s’ hometown of Boston, Casey Affleck said that he didn’t believe his brother would be doing the upcoming solo Batman movie.

“I thought he was an OK Batman,” Affleck said. “No, I thought he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say.”

In the video above you can see that one of the radio hosts points out that Affleck just broke some major news, to which Affleck responds, “Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.”

This exchange makes it unclear if Casey Affleck was joking or walking his statement back once he realized he let something big slip. There were rumors that Ben Affleck was looking for a way out of his Batman gig, but he seemed to dispel those rumors at Comic-Con International: San Diego. If Casey Affleck wasn’t joking, it’s possible that he doesn’t know the most recent developments in Ben Affleck’s deal with Warner Bros. On the other hand, maybe there are plans to kill off Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and Ben Affleck is just doing his best to keep it hidden.

While the future of Affleck’s role in The Batman may be unclear, the actor will reprise his role as the Dark Knight for Justice League in November.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
