From the time Gotham was announced, most fans had hopes that the series would eventually end with a young Bruce Wayne donning the cowl for the very first time. As it turns out, the star of the show has been hoping for the same exact thing.
David Mazouz, who plays Bruce on the series, is known for being a massive fan of the Caped Crusader. As you can imagine, eventually becoming Batman has always been his dream, and he's hoping Gotham will turn that into a reality.
While appearing on Discussing Film's podcast this week, Mazouz was asked about the potential for his character to one day put on the famous Batsuit. Without hesitating, the young actor laid out his plans for the final scene of the show, which includes comic costume debuts for many of his fellow cast-mates, in addition to himself.
"I hope so," Mazouz said of the potential addition of the cowl. "I would love to see the show end with Bruce Wayne in a Batsuit on top of a building looking down, with a Bat-Signal on top Gotham Central. [I want to see] everybody, not just Bruce, coming into the characters they're supposed to be. Nygma as the full-blown Riddler, Oswald as the full-blown Penguin, Selina as the full-blown Catwoman, Gordon as commissioner with a mustache and glasses. And everybody coming into the person that they're destined to be at the same time, in the series finale, I guess it would be. I'd love for that last shot to be Bruce, putting on the Batsuit. That's just my personal preference, but I don't know if that's allowed or realistic. I don't know what's actually going to happen."
The one negative aspect to this idea would mean that the characters wouldn't reach their full potential at any point in the series. However, it would mean that the fans would get to see all of their favorite Batman characters, in comic-accurate costumes, on the small screen, and that's something worth celebrating.
If we're lucky enough, maybe Mazouz will get through to the producers and make this ending happen.
Gotham returns to FOX with new episodes on Thursday, March 1 at 8pm ET.
