DC Films has announced many, MANY different projects that are all in various stages of development. It’s not likely that every single one of them will make it to the silver screen, but they are being worked on none the less.
Some are pretty obvious, like Aquaman and Wonder Woman II. Others are a little on the obscure side, like Justice League Dark and Booster Gold.
All in all, there are about 18 projects in the works for DC Films. Most of them sound like they’re going to be a part of their shared universe spearheaded by Justice League, but it also includes the new Elseworlds-style label for their ‘out of continuity’ projects.
With Justice League set to establish the future of the DC cinematic universe next month, it’s time to start looking at what’s on the horizon.
Read on to learn more about the various DC movies in the works at Warner Bros.
The Sure Things
Aquaman
From director James Wan, this one is currently in production. It is set to come out in December 21, 2018, so it’s basically a sure thing at this point.
Jason Momoa reprises his role as Aquaman, leading an all-star cast that also includes Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Temuera Morrison, Patrick Williams, Willem Dafoe, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
ย
Shazam
Now in pre-production, Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is currently casting for the Marvel family, including Billy Batson.
The movie was initially announced as part of DC Films’ ambitious film slate in 2014, and it seems like it’s still on target to meet its April 5, 2019 release date.
ย
Wonder Woman II
After the box office smash of the summer hit theaters, a sequel to Wonder Woman was a no brainer. Now, Warner Bros. has locked in director Patty Jenkins to return, and Gal Gadot will be reprising the titular role.
Though we know little about the film’s plot, what timeframe it will be set in, or who else will star, we do know that it will be released on December 13, 2019.
Suicide Squad 2
Recent reports state that the sequel to the Academy Award-winning Suicide Squad goes into production in March 2018.
Gavin O’Connor signed on to direct, and it’s probably safe to assume that Margot Robbie and Will Smith will be back for the sequel. This is the first of three movies that will feature Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
In The Works
Flashpoint
Originally a solo Flash movie, Warner Bros. blew fans away when the word “Flashpoint” came on the screen during the Hall H panel at SDCC this summer.
The movie still doesn’t have a director, but star Ezra Miller is returning and there have been rumors of Gal Gadot appearing in some capacity.
The Batman
Though this film has been plagued with development issues surrounding star Ben Affleck, it seems to be on the right track.
Director Matt Reeves has signed on to handle the project and he’s re-writing the script. But so far, there’s no word on when it’s going to go into production.
Cyborg
While this might not be at the top of most fans’ wish lists, Cyborg is a strong character with a lot of popularity. That will likely grow after Justice League hits theaters.
Ray Fisher is signed on for this movie, and it was also included as part of the DC Films slate. It remains to be seen if it’s still on track for the 2020 release date originally attached to the movie.

Green Lantern Corps
Rumors have been swirling around about Green Lanterns in the DC movie universe since Justice League started production. Though that DC Films slate announced the movie for 2020, not much has been heard about the movie.
That is, until San Diego Comic-Con 2017, when a new graphic for the movie was displayed during Warner Bros. presentation at Hall H. Little else is known about the movie, except that Warner Bros. has not forgotten about it.
Who Knows? Part 1
Booster Gold
One of the first movies to be announced, it was supposed to be in the works from DC TV wunderkind Greg Berlanti. However, there has been little progress on the movie since it made headlines.
Batgirl
Though Joss Whedon has been handling additional photography on Justice League, he originally signed on to develop a movie based on Batgirl.
He’s both writing and directing the movie, but that production was likely pushed back as he took over directing duties for Justice League.
Nightwing
After wowing with The LEGO Batman Movie, Chris McKay was given the chance to play in the live-action DC universe. He’s currently working on developing the film now, with no word on how much the project has progressed.
Black Adam
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was given his choice to play Black Adam or Shazam, and he went the villainous route. They’re now being developed for separate movies, and with Johnson’s busy schedule, there’s no telling when Black Adam will appear on the screen.
Man of Steel 2
Rumors of different directors signing on to helm the next Superman movie have swirled around, but that’s the only news on this front.
Gotham City Sirens
After directing Suicide Squad, David Ayer turned his attention to a project focusing on some of Batman’s best villains. But aside form vague teases on social media, there’s been little news about this film.
This is the second of three films that will feature Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Who Knows? Part 2
Joker Origin
This one blew up the internet, with Todd Phillips directing and co-writing the script with Scott Silver and Martin Scorsese attached to produce. Though it’s only in development right now and is not a sure thing (like a lot of these movies), this project was announced alongside the Elseworlds-style banner of DC movies. It would star a different actor than Jared Leto as the Joker, apparently
Harley Quinn & Joker
This Is Us producers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are in talks to make this movie, starring Jared Leto’s Joker and Robbie’s Harley Quinn. This would be the third movie to feature Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Justice League Dark
Much like many other DC Films projects, this one has had a lot of trouble. Both Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman abandoned the film, but word is that WB execs are expecting another crack at the script.
ย
Deathstroke
The latest movie to be announced in development would feature Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, originally attached to Affleck’s The Batman, and The Raid director Gareth Edwards.

DC Films’ next movie, Justice League, hits theaters November 17.
