DC Super Hero Girls is going full-length with an animated feature film this summer. The younger, female-focused take on DC Comics’ characters has been popular in its initial year, with a series of shorts online and a wide variety of toys and accessories. Now, with DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year the franchise goes bigger than ever, as teenaged Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Katana take on Eclipso, Dark Opal, and more to fight back the darkness (while also navigating the perils of high school, of course).

The 72 minute film hits Digital HD on August 9, 2016 and DVD on August 23, 2016. No Blu-ray release is planned at this time, so if you want it in HD, it’ll be the digital copy. The voice cast includes: Grey Griffin (Wonder Woman), Anais Fairweather (Supergirl), Mae Whitman (Batgirl/Barbara Gordon), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy) Teala Dunn (Bumblebee), and Stephanie Sheh (Katana). Special Features on the DVD will include six of the animated shorts featuring the DC Super Hero Girls, as well.

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is thrilled to team with DC Entertainment to release DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year on DVD,”said Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing in a press release. “We’re excited to bring DC Super Hero Girls to life and create an immersive world to help inspire young women like never before. These characters were developed with girls 6-12 in mind and will deliver epic story lines featuring strong females. It truly embraces and celebrates girls as they discover their own unique abilities.”
