'Flashpoint' Actress Kiersey Clemons Says She Isn't Sure What Time Period Iris West Is From

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Flashpoint's Kiersey Clemons admitted that she does not actually know where her version of Iris West falls into the story yet.

In the interview, conducted in support of her new film Flatliners, Clemons told ET Online that she was unsure about time periods, although it is possible she is actually talking about realities, just from context.

"Because of going back and forth past and future with The Flash, you don't even know what time period you actually meet Iris," Clemons said.

In the comic book story that inspired Flashpoint, The Flash travels back in time to save his mother from being murdered at the hands of the Reverse Flash. Ultimately that proves to be a grievous error and it damages the timestream, seemingly beyond repair, creating a dark, alternate reality in which the world is on the brink of oblivion.

A much simpler, smaller-scale version of the "Flashpoint" story led off season 3 of The CW's The Flash last year, although from the limited information that is available so far, it sounds like the 2020 movie version will be much closer in terms of content to the comic book source material and the 2013 animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

That is all Clemons wants to draw from The CW's hit series, though; she says that she is consciously avoiding drawing on Candice Patton's performance for the movies, so as to keep the universes distinct.

"I mean, to be honest, I haven't tried to pull from her at all," Clemons said. "I want my Iris West to be its own world."

Clemons was expected to debut as Iris in the forthcoming Justice League movie, but has reportedly been cut from the film's latest edit (along with Lex Luthor) in what sounds like a move to streamline the story after bulky subplots were thought to have weighed down portions of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

Flashpoint is expected in theaters in 2020, meaning that it will likely begin shooting in late 2018 or early 2019. The film is currently without a director, having already changed scripts and directors a couple of times since it was announced. Current reports hold that Back to the Future's Robert Zemeckis is a frontrunner for the gig.
