Barbara Kean is set to form a female power trio on the next season of Gotham, but it sounds like an alliance born of necessity rather than allegiance.

Barbara and Tabitha Galavan didn’t exactly end Gotham‘s third season on good terms, seeing as Tabitha killed Barbara, or so she thought. Jessica Lucas, the actress who plays Tabitha on Gotham, tells ComicBook.com that Barbara’s reemergence leaves Tabitha in a tough position, which inspires her to reach out to a new ally.
“She’s left without allies at the end of season three and so she’s in a bit of a desperate situation and sees an opportunity to ally herself with Selina which will give her a lot more and control and I think that she recognizes that Selina has a lot of skills and so she can bring her up to speed,” Lucas explained. “They form a sisterly relationship. They certainly butt heads. There’s a lot of tough love there, a disciplinarian type of relationship.”
The relationship between Tabitha and Selina will take on a new dynamic when Barbara finds her way back into the mix.
“I think once Barbara incorporates into that relationship there’ll be that sort of maybe mother, father family type of relationship between the three of them,” Lucas said.
This new alliance could have powerful repercussions for Gotham City and its other power players. Some of the other alliances of Gotham, including that of Oswald Cobblepot and Edward Nygma, will also be going through some changes in the show’s fourth season.
Gotham returns to Fox for its fourth season on Sept. 21st.
Gotham is the origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), this one-hour drama follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the genesis of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.
