While Gotham may have been off the air for a few months, the latest episode is well worth the wait. Bruce is finally set to begin his training with Ra’s al Ghul, Nygma is finally The Riddler, and Jim has received an invite from The Court Of Owls. However, the episode delivered one shocking twist that audiences weren’t expecting anytime soon.

Oswald Cobblepot, aka Penguin, is alive and well.

Cobblepot had been appearing throughout the episode, as Nygma has bringing him back with hallucinations. However, after Riddler said his final goodbyes – attempting to put Penguin to rest once and for all – the show cut over to Ivy’s apartment.

Oswald started to wake up in her bed, with a bandage over his bullet wound. He remembers Nygma shot him, and asks Ivy for an explanation. She claims that she fished him out of the water, and that he’d been out cold for weeks.

As he sat up, Oswald made a declaration that many Gotham fans will be hearing until next week’s episode.

“I just remembered, there’s someone I need to kill.”

He’s obviously talking about Nygma, his friend who killed him in the midseason finale. Oswald was in love with Nygma, and he killed the man’s girlfriend so they could be together. Upon learning this, Nygma had no choice but to kill him.

It was no secret that Penguin would return to Gotham at some point. After all, he is one of Batman’s biggest villains. However, no one thought it would be this soon.

Riddler better watch his back going forward, because he has a new enemy on his heels.

Nygma convinces himself that he doesn’t need Penguin to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as “The Riddler.” Bullock and Lucius Fox get caught up in Nygma’s mind games, while Gordon learns troubling news about his father’s death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.

The regular cast features: Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as the future Poison Ivy, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, and Benedict Samuel as Mad Hatter.
